Southern Highlands Quilter’s Guild Biannual Quilt & Craft Show 2012
The Southern Highlands Quilters’ Guild comprises a diverse group of ladies who share the love of creating quilts and developing friendships.
Beginning in 2005 with 34 members the guild has now grown to over 75. Members meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at the Mittagong RSL Club. New members and friends are always welcome. The Guild shares ideas and their wealth of knowledge with each other. They have an extensive library of books and magazines available to them and show off their creations, which inspires others in the group.
Outings to quilt shows and patchwork shops are always on the agenda. In September of each year a sewing retreat is organised at Mollymook on the south coast, where a fabulous time is had by all.
Over the last three years the Guild has made over 150 children’s quilts for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia, over 60 quilts for fire and flood victims of Victoria and Queensland and continue to add to their “stash” should another emergency arise. Quilts are also made to help local charities, either to raffle or as gifts for the charities to use.
The SHQG is now working towards its Third Biannual Quilt Show to be held on the 18th and 19th of February 2012, at the Mittagong RSL Club. This show will be supporting “Challenge Southern Highlands” an organisation that provides employment at “Welby Garden Centre” for adults with disabilities from our local community.
Members will have on display over 100 of their quilts and wall hangings as well as craft creations and a challenge mini quilt section with the theme of “freshly picked”. There will be a selection of handmade crafts for sale and also at least 6 retailer stalls for that special purchase.
